Gov. Greg Abbott has made Texas the first, and so far only state to announce that it would block new refugee arrivals. Abbott said on January 10 that he will no longer allow people fleeing war and persecution abroad to seek refuge in Texas.
President Donald Trump last September issued an ill-advised executive order requiring state and local governments to explicitly approve refugee relocations to their communities.
