Ravi Shankar serves as director of Financial Operations and Reporting at American Progress. He works in the Finance department and oversees financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, and he provides operational support to program staff.

Before joining American Progress, Shankar briefly worked as a senior consultant with SSi Consulting, providing advice to midsize organizations to implement software solutions that enhance organizational efficiency and productivity.

Prior to his time at SSi, he worked as CFO and COO of NatureServe, a conservation nonprofit, from 2008 to 2016 overseeing its operations. At NatureServe, as CFO and part of the senior leadership team, he was instrumental in the development and implementation of two five-year strategic plans that enhanced the organization’s mission while providing high visibility in the conservation community. As COO, he transitioned the organization from performing under a legacy working condition to an efficient and productive environment that provided effective operational support to the programmatic staff.

Prior to NatureServe, Shankar served as director of finance at Amtrak from 2006 to 2008 where he was responsible for capital budgets and forecasting. His previous experience includes working as senior manager of finance, providing operational support to Canon U.S.A.’s $200 million East Coast operations.

Shankar received his MBA from Norwich University in Vermont and earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Delhi University in India. He is also a chartered accountant from India. He volunteered as an adult leader for cub scouts and likes to listen to progressive rock and world fusion music.
