Alyssa Peterson

Special Assistant and Assistant Editor, Poverty to Prosperity Program

Alyssa Peterson is the Special Assistant to the Poverty to Prosperity Program at American Progress and Assistant Editor of TalkPoverty.org. In this role, she works to promote economic security for all Americans.

Peterson graduated from Georgetown University in 2014 with a bachelor of arts in government and a minor in women and gender studies. Prior to joining the team, Peterson served as a policy analyst in the Office of Vice President Joe Biden, where she was a member of the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault. Peterson also interned at the Office of Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD), the White House, the Center for American Progress, Hilltop Public Solutions, the Office of Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), and the Office of Rep. Debbie Halvorson (D-IL).

While at Georgetown, Peterson founded the Georgetown Student Tenant Association to protect students from abusive landlords and organized a national campaign of student government leaders in response to rising student-loan interest rates.
