Meredith Leal is the special assistant for National Security and International Policy at American Progress. Previously, she worked at American Progress on a wide range of issues, including food security and climate change; the U.S. nuclear arsenal; and the U.S.-Japan alliance. Before working at American Progress, she volunteered with a disaster relief organization serving refugees and internally displaced people in Erbil, Kurdistan. Leal has also spent time volunteering at an nongovernmental organization in Kabul, Afghanistan. While attending The Ohio State University, she interned at the Middle East Studies Center (MESC) and led the MESC’s communications team. Leal received her bachelor’s degree in international studies with a Middle East concentration and a minor in Persian from Ohio State.
