Devon Kearns is the associate director of Media Relations at American Progress, where she handles a portfolio of issues that includes health care; early, K-12, and higher education; and poverty issues. Prior to joining American Progress, Kearns was a member of the media team at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund, where she helped manage federal policy media during the federal defund campaigns of 2015 and 2016. She worked on various issues at Planned Parenthood, including communications strategy for state policy and litigation and the 2016 presidential campaign. Before that, she worked in Congress for five years in various roles, including as the Washington press secretary to former Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK). Overcoming her fear of bears, she relocated to Alaska to serve as press secretary for Sen. Begich’s campaign in 2014.
A native of Connecticut, Kearns started her career working in the office of Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) and is also a former member of the communications team for Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). She received her bachelor’s degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
