Nathan Fenstermacher is managing director of National Security and International Policy at American Progress. Previously, he served as the organization’s managing director of Government Affairs, with a portfolio primarily focused on economic and national security policy.
Before joining the Center, Fenstermacher worked as Rep. Joe Donnelly’s (D-IN) legislative director, where he managed all legislative and appropriations priorities. In addition to serving as senior policy adviser, he also directly handled the congressman’s work in national security, tax, and budget issues. Prior to joining Rep. Donnelly’s staff, Fenstermacher worked as a legislative assistant for Rep. Melissa Bean (D-IL), where he focused on health care, national security, veterans affairs, and telecommunications policy. Fenstermacher started his nine years on Capitol Hill working as a legislative correspondent for Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN). Fenstermacher began his career working in city government and on congressional campaigns.
A native Hoosier, Fenstermacher holds a B.S. in public policy from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
