Gwen Calais-Haase is a special assistant for both Democracy and Government Reform and the Faith and Progressive Policy Initiative at American Progress. Before joining American Progress, she interned in the U.S. House of Representatives for Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) and Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA). Prior to those internships, she assisted with research projects at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) that investigated the influence of U.S. political parties and Senate procedure. Calais-Haase got her start interning for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Department of Homeland Security and later his Federal Affairs office. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA.
