The Digital Strategy team collaborates across American Progress to increase its reach, engagement, and ability to improve the lives of all Americans. Working with experts in policy, communications, government affairs, and development, the Digital Strategy team helps to amplify efforts through strategic use of digital communications and technology—raising strategic audiences’ awareness of the organization and building relationships with progressive allies.
Digital Strategy interns will have the opportunity to work with all aspects of digital strategy and communications—including email marketing, social media, web development, and the many disciplines that fall in between—to learn many of the basic skills it takes to work at a progressive nonprofit. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in the intersection of policy and digital communications.
The internship will be focused on direct collaboration with and support of policy team initiatives, as this is where American Progress achieves its greatest impact. These efforts include digital campaign conception and execution, measurement and optimization, and knowledge management and sharing to ensure that the organization’s work continues to improve over time.
The Digital Strategy team maintains a broad portfolio of diverse expertise, and as such, ideal candidates will come in many forms. No candidate is expected to be proficient in all aspects of their work, and tasks and responsibilities will be molded to individual strengths and interest areas, along with organizational needs.
American Progress interns are paid at the D.C. minimum wage rate. As of July 2019, that rate is $14 per hour. Effective July 1, 2020, the D.C. minimum wage will rise to $15 per hour. American Progress also offers interns metro benefits.
