American Progress is committed to delivering its message to diverse communities. To that end, the Constituency Media intern will work to reach communities of color though targeted and comprehensive communications work. The Constituency Media intern will work closely with the Communications team’s Constituency Media Associate to maintain working relationships with national and state constituency media outlets, including Spanish-language, African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and American Indian and Alaska Native outlets, as well as international media.
Constituency Media interns will have a front-row seat to learning many of the basic communications skills needed to work at a progressive nonprofit. Constituency Media interns must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish and have the ability to compose or translate into Spanish original CAP products, press releases, statements, and advisories; conduct research in both languages; and help build media lists.
Other duties may include drafting social media and website content and participating in meetings and activities with various policy teams. The Constituency Media intern is also expected to help the Communications team with day-to-day activities.
American Progress interns are paid at the D.C. minimum wage rate. As of July 2019, that rate is $14 per hour. Effective July 1, 2020, the D.C. minimum wage will rise to $15 per hour. American Progress also offers interns metro benefits.
