Research Analyst, War Room

Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for a Research Analyst on the War Room team to monitor the news, produce rapid-response pushback, and anticipate reactions to events. A good eye for building narratives and finding original angles is a must. This person will work under the guidance of the Rapid Response Director and, when appropriate, in coordination with campaign leads. The Research Analyst will be responsible for organizing and developing thorough research files and for prioritizing issues around which progressives can mobilize. The ideal candidate should have experience working with communications professionals as well as the ability to organize raw research into products that help shape stories for reporters and advocates.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and develop thorough research files.
  • Lead investigative research on individuals.
  • Develop a database for tracking individuals and events.
  • Build sources and maintain a steady stream of public records requests and other inbound original source material.
  • Help with fact-checking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively use LexisNexis.
  • Adeptness searching the Congressional Record, court filings, and government records.
  • Strong understanding of national politics.
  • Understanding of political research files and material.
  • Familiarity with progressive issues and stances.
  • Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One to two years of experience in political and investigative research.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and seeks direction as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience in candidate or issue advocacy campaigns is required.
  • Experience operating in high-stakes environments that required the production of high-quality, accurate products under tight deadlines.
  • Superb research and writing abilities.
  • Ability to plan ahead and set priorities.
  • Commitment to American Progress’ mission and goals.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by IFPTE Local 70.
