Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress today welcomed Miguel E. Rodriguez as the organization’s new senior vice president for government affairs. Since 2014, Rodriguez has served as a partner in Bryan Cave’s Public Policy and Government Affairs practice. Prior to joining Bryan Cave, Rodriguez served as an assistant to the president and director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. In this role, he served as former President Barack Obama’s primary liaison to the U.S. Congress, working to advance the administration’s legislative agenda and promote its policy priorities. Among his responsibilities, Rodriguez oversaw the confirmation of the president’s Cabinet and other prominent nominees, including the secretaries of State, Defense, Treasury, Commerce, and Labor.

Rodriguez also served as a special assistant to the president in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. In this capacity, he was the White House’s primary point of contact for four standing Senate committees and three appropriations subcommittees. Rodriguez held the position of deputy assistant secretary for Senate affairs at the Department of State and served as chief counsel and legislative director for then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).
Rodriguez replaces Michael Sozan, who will remain with American Progress as a resident senior fellow with the organization’s Democracy and Government Reform team.
