Restructuring the Weapon Acquisition System
The Center for American Progress Action Fund supports pending legislation in Congress that will address failures in the military contracting process. The Levin-McCain Act (Senate) and the Skelton-McHugh Act (House) are important steps in building new tools to tackle cost overruns, schedule delays and technology shortcomings. It is critical that the DoD build its capacity to effectively oversee procurement. But improving the quality of the procurement process is not enough—it is equally as important to ensure that procurement decisions are in step with the current military needs and priorities.
