WASHINGTON, D.C. - "Today the Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized President Barack Obama "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."  This honor comes at a time when the world faces enormous challenges, including climate change and nuclear non-proliferation. Understanding the indispensable leadership role played by the United States, President Obama has begun the long process of restoring America's alliances, repairing the United States' image, and recommitting the United States to multilateral solutions to the world's toughest problems. The United States is stronger and safer when we use our influence to cultivate and strengthen international consensus and cooperation rather than acting alone."
