STATEMENT: CAP’s Podesta and Brown on New Coalition to Expand Learning Time for Students

Washington, D.C. — Center for American Progress Chairman John Podesta and Vice President for Education Policy Cynthia G. Brown issued the following statement on the Time to Succeed Coalition, a new national advocacy-based coalition launched today. The coalition will work to expand learning time by inspiring and motivating communities across the country to add more time to a redesigned school day and year, enabling students to get the education they need to succeed.

We are encouraged by the growing momentum in support of expanded learning time as evidenced by the remarkable group of people that have come together as part of the Time to Succeed Coalition. CAP remains a dedicated advocate of expanded learning time, a proven strategy to increase student achievement in our lowest-performing schools. We are eager to work with this coalition to motivate more schools and districts to increase learning time and redesign the school day.
