Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress announced that Greg Dotson will be joining CAP as the new Vice President for Energy Policy. Dotson is currently the Democratic Energy and Environment staff director of the committee. In that capacity, Dotson was vital in the House passage of comprehensive climate change legislation and clean energy, pesticide safety, drinking water, and clean air laws.
In his new role at CAP, Dotson will oversee the work of the energy and environment team, which includes both international and domestic policy areas.
“For almost two decades, Greg has been a tireless advocate for the health of our environment and our citizens,” said Neera Tanden, President of the Center for American Progress. “During his time on the Hill, Greg was a driving force behind the scenes, developing and fighting to enact clean energy and environmental legislation. Greg’s expertise will be invaluable as CAP continues to identify and promote bold new policies to address climate change and advance efforts to promote President Barack Obama’s Climate Action Plan.”
“Greg has devoted his career to protecting the environment,” said Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA). “He has played a key role in virtually every major energy and environment legislation enacted by Congress in the past 18 years. He will make an enormous contribution to the Center for American Progress.”
Darryl Banks, who currently runs CAP’s energy team, will continue to work with the Center for American Progress as a Senior Fellow.
“We are grateful for Darryl’s stewardship of our energy work and pleased that he is continuing on as a senior fellow, allowing him to focus his efforts on science and technology policy and energy innovation,” said Tanden.
Dotson worked for Rep. Henry Waxman for more than 18 years, first as counsel and chief environmental counsel for the House Oversight Committee and later as chief counsel for the Energy and Environment Committee.
Dotson has a law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law and an undergraduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
