RELEASE: Vice President Joe Biden To Give Keynote Remarks At “National Clean Energy Summit 4.0: The Future Of Energy”

Vice President Joins Distinguished Political, Business and Industry Leaders in Las Vegas on August 30th

Las Vegas – Vice President Joe Biden will give keynote remarks at the “National Clean Energy Summit 4.0: The Future of Energy” to be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Aria Resort and Casino at CityCenter in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Co-sponsored by the Center for American Progress, the Clean Energy Project, MGM Resorts International, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), and University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), this year’s National Clean Energy Summit will once again bring together veteran business executives, energy policy innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and senior public officials from both parties, along with citizens, and students, to discuss the future of our nation’s energy in an effort to help speed adoption of more effective energy policy and make our nation more competitive in the global clean energy economy.

“Nevada welcomes Vice President Biden back to the state for the fourth annual National Clean Energy Summit,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. “The Obama Administration has proven time and again it understands the importance of building a competitive 21st Century economy through clean energy investments and policies that are focused on putting people back to work, reducing costs for consumers, and eliminating our nation’s dependence on oil and unsustainable energy sources. I thank Vice President Biden for agreeing to make keynote remarks at this important event and look forward to showing him how Nevada is leading the way toward a clean energy economy.”

“National Clean Energy Summit 4.0: The Future of Energy” will chart a path to a clean energy future. Smart investments in electricity production and delivery, vehicles and the transportation system, energy efficient buildings and homes, and new clean energy sources will lead to long-term savings, global economic competitiveness, and a diverse, thriving economy with high employment.

“The Obama-Biden administration has taken many important steps to create clean energy jobs,” said John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress. “The Better Buildings Initiative, the first offshore wind energy farm in the U.S., and public health standards to reduce power plant pollution, and the proposed next generation fuel economy standards, will each act to further spur investment and innovation. But more needs to be done to unleash private capital and make investments in clean tech jobs. We plan to focus on this challenge at the Summit in Las Vegas.”

Other notable speakers at the summit include U.S. Senator Harry Reid, Center for American Progress President and CEO John Podesta, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International Jim Murren, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, California Governor Jerry Brown, and Washington Governor Christine Gregoire.
