The Center for American Progress congratulates Melody Barnes, our friend and colleague, on her appointment by President-elect Barack Obama to direct the White House Domestic Policy Council. Throughout her distinguished career, Melody has been a tireless and effective advocate for progressive change. As the Executive Vice President for Policy at CAP, and before that as a top aide to Senator Ted Kennedy, Melody has dedicated herself to driving and shaping ideas and policies designed to ensure that all hard-working Americans have access to the American Dream. From the economy to health care to immigration, Melody has had an impact on nearly every major issue facing our country. The challenges we face today may be grave, but we can think of no one we would rather see helping President-elect Barack Obama meet them than Melody Barnes.
