On the Passing of Coretta Scott King

Today we mourn the passing of Coretta Scott King, the first lady of civil rights and social justice in America.

With unyielding courage, grace under fire, and a steely determination to ensure that her husband’s dream of equality would indeed become a reality, Mrs. King was a living reminder not only of the remarkable progress we have made as a nation, but of the many challenges still before us. Widowed at far too young an age, Mrs. King never fell victim to complacency, demanding of us the same prophetic commitment to justice, peace, and equality that she demonstrated throughout her life.

We honor her for her lifetime of service to a movement that truly set America free.

We will miss her.
