Brian Komar
Director of Strategic Outreach and Alliances
Brian Komar is the Director of Strategic Outreach and Alliances at American Progress. Prior to joining, Brian was the Director of Strategic Affairs at the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR), where he had primary responsibility for strategic development and communications activities of the over 180-member civil and human rights coalition. During his 10-year tenure at LCCR, Brian also served as a senior public policy advisor and manager of LCCR's coalition relations efforts. He helped coordinate the coalition's online and offline lobbying, communications, public education, and grassroots activities on several advocacy campaigns, including affirmative action, executive and judicial nominations, hate crimes legislation, the decennial census, telecommunications and media reform, the Community Reinvestment Act, and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Brian also founded and spearheaded development of the coalition's award-winning website, www.civilrights.org, rated the top civil rights website by The National Journal. A native of Illinois, Brian received his B.A. cum laude from the University of Illinois, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Masters in Public Policy from Georgetown University.
