Jonathan Jacoby
Associate Director for International Economic Policy
Jonathan Jacoby is the Associate Director for International Economic Policy at American Progress. He works on trade, globalization, development, finance, and other global economic issues. He has addressed a wide range of audiences about international trade and development policy—from Members of Congress and Ambassadors to college students and faith communities. Jacoby has also appeared on CNN, BBC, CNBC, and PBS’s “Nightly Business Report.” As a Columbia Business School CORPS Fellow, he served as Advisor for the Initiative for Global Development, a national network of business and civic leaders advocating for global poverty reduction. Previously, Jacoby conducted advocacy, organizing, and research at Oxfam America—a leading international development organization—to address the impact of declining commodity prices on developing economies. His efforts related to the global coffee trade contributed to the passage of legislation, U.S. membership in a multilateral organization, Procter & Gamble and Dunkin Donuts offerings of Fair Trade Certified coffee, and the creation of the national group United Students for Fair Trade. Jacoby has traveled to over 40 countries throughout Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia and is fluent in Spanish. He has lived and worked in Nicaragua, Bolivia, Ethiopia, and South Africa, where he served the Secretariat of the African Union’s New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). Jonathan holds a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University and an M.B.A. and Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University.
