John Halpin
Senior Fellow
John Halpin is a Senior Fellow at American Progress focusing on progressive thought and history. He has written extensively on the civic republican and faith traditions of the common good, and is currently developing a multiyear project to increase public awareness of the core values and political philosophy of progressivism. Halpin is the co-author with John Podesta of The Power of Progress: How America's Progressives Can (Once Again) Save Our Economy, Our Climate, and Our Country, a book about the history and future of the progressive movement. The book will be published by Crown in the summer of 2008.
Halpin has been with American Progress since its inception in 2003, serving as the Director of Research and the Head of Executive Speechwriting. Prior to joining CAP, he was as a senior associate at Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, providing strategic guidance and public opinion research for political parties and candidates including the 2000 Gore campaign, the British Labor Party, the Austrian Social Democrats, and a range of congressional, state legislative, and initiative campaigns.
Halpin received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his graduate degree in political science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He lives in Baltimore with his wife and two children.
