About This Event

The Center for American Progress is releasing a new report entitled “Climate Change, Migration, and Nontraditional Security Threats in China,” which outlines the complex environmental, economic, and demographic challenges facing China as it pursues sustainable economic development and increased regional responsibilities. These converging challenges – including climate change, rapid urbanization, political corruption, and an aging population – will increase China’s already intense focus on energy security and exert an increasing focus on Beijing’s foreign policy. Join the Center for American Progress as we host Dr. Markus Ederer, Germany’s State Secretary and former European Union Ambassador to China and other speakers to discuss these dynamics and explore the implications for U.S. foreign and development policy.

Opening remarks:
Neil Morisetti, Director of Strategy, University College London Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy; former UK Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative for Climate Change

Speakers:
Dr. Markus Ederer, State Secretary, German Foreign Ministry and former Ambassador of the European Union in Beijing
Sherri W. Goodman, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, CNA Military Advisory Board, CNA Corporation
Lauren Reed, Government Affairs Senior Analyst, Qualcomm, Inc.

Moderator:
Michael Werz, Senior Fellow, Center for American Progress
