Christine Varney
Christine A. Varney was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as assistant attorney general for the Antitrust Division on April 20, 2009. From 1998 to 2008, Ms. Varney was a partner at Hogan & Hartson, LLP, in Washington, D.C., where she served as a member of the firm's Antitrust Practice Group and head of the Internet Practice Group, which she started. From 1994 to 1997, she served as a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission, and was a leading official on a wide variety of Internet and competition issues. In the past two years, the Antitrust Division's criminal enforcement work has resulted in the assessment of more than $1.5 billion in fines against criminal conspirators.
