Jonathan Spear

Jonathan Spear is Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of of Generation Schools. Mr. Spear has been a teacher and administrator in private, urban district and public charter schools. He brings extensive experience in school operations, oversight and compliance. Mr. Spear has served on the boards and planning teams of multiple charter schools throughout New York City. He also successfully developed and managed school partnerships with community-based resources and cultural institutions. He helped develop curriculum and programs cited as best practices. In his role at Generation Schools, as well as providing critical technical assistance and training to the pilot school leader and staff, he has worked closely with the teachers union and the district to build the bridges to enable new ideas to launch within the existing system. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and a master's degree in education from Bank Street College of Education.
