Rob Weil

Rob Weil is Deputy Director for the Educational Issues Department of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). In 2001 he joined the national office of the AFT and is responsible for urban education, including implementing school improvement efforts at the district, school and classroom level. He works in all areas of reform, with emphasis on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; school-focused improvement; professional development, including AFT's Educational Research and Dissemination Program; and all issues related to teacher quality. Weil taught high school in Douglas County, Colorado, for 20 years. He helped develop and implement numerous improvement efforts, including the school district's performance pay plan for teachers. Now in its 15th year, the compensation plan has become the model for hundreds of school districts around the country. In 1995 he was elected president of the Douglas County Federation of Teachers, which represents approximately 3,000 kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers.
