Glenn Ivey
The State's Attorney for Prince George's County Maryland is an official who is elected every four years to prosecute crimes the County. Now serving a second term in office, Glenn F. Ivey is a former federal prosecutor who served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1990 until 1994.
While there, he also served under Eric H. Holder Jr., now the Attorney General of the United States. Under Holder, Ivey handled criminal jury trials numerous appeals and grand jury investigations.
His previous experience includes that of senior legislative assistant to Congressman John Conyers (D-MI); serving as Chief Counsel to former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) and as Counsel to the Senate Whitewater Committee for Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD).
In private practice, Ivey was a partner at the Washington, DC law firm of Preston, Gates, Ellis (now K&L Gates) where he handled legislative, regulatory and criminal matters. His expertise in criminal law resulted in a designation to teach an as Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Maryland School of Law where he continues to serve as an educator despite his very busy schedule as State's Attorney. Prior to his election as State's Attorney, Ivey was appointed Chairman of the Maryland Public Service Commission by former Maryland Governor Parris Glendening. He held jurisdiction over the electric, telecommunications and gas industries in the state.
Born in North Carolina and raised in Dale City, Virginia, he graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1983 and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1986. Ivey, who moved with his wife to Maryland in 1988, is the husband of Maryland State Delegate, Jolene Ivey, and is the father of six children – five sons and one daughter from a previous relationship.
In 1983, Glenn graduated with honors from Princeton University. Three years later, he graduated from Harvard Law School after which his legal career officially began when he joined the litigation department at the prestigious Baltimore law firm of Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander.
