Cathy Cavanaugh

Cathy Cavanaugh is associate professor of educational technology in the School of Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her research focuses on effective technology-enhanced physical and virtual learning environments, including virtual schools.

Dr. Cavanaugh has worked with virtual schools, school districts, and education agencies in several states and countries. She has taught educators and leaders at the University of North Florida, University of South Florida, Rollins College, and Furman University. She served as co-director of the Northeast Florida Science, Technology and Mathematics Center; as assistant director of the Florida Center for Instructional Technology; and as a classroom teacher in Florida and the Caribbean.

She has a B.A. in education from the University of the Virgin Islands, a M.Ed. from the University of Central Florida and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of South Florida specializing in distance education.
