Pablo Muñoz
Pablo Muñoz is the Superintendent of Elizabeth Public Schools in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Born and raised in the City of Elizabeth, he is a product of the public school system he now leads. He began his career in the Elizabeth Public Schools in 1991 as a teacher of social studies. He served in the positions of Supervisor of Social Studies and Director of Curriculum and Instruction before becoming an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in 2002. Muñoz was named Acting Superintendent of Schools in May 2005and was appointed as Superintendent in June 2006. His effective leadership of the Elizabeth Public Schools has been recognized by several organizations. Most recently, he was named 2008 Union County School Superintendent of the Year by the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce. Muñoz also was selected to be a member of the George Lucas Educational Foundation's 2008 Daring Dozen – a prestigious group of twelve educators "who are reshaping the future of education." He is a 2006 graduate of the elite Broad Foundation Superintendent's Academy. In 2008, Muñoz and the members of the Elizabeth Board of Education were one of five board-superintendent teams that participate in the "Reform Governance in Action" program managed by the Center for Reform of School Systems (CRSS). Muñoz received a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale University, where he also earned Ivy-League pitching honors. He has a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Columbia University.
