Brigadier General (Ret.) Ilan Paz

Brigadier General (Ret.) Ilan Paz is a retired high-ranking IDF Officer with broad expertise derived from 28 years' varied military service, including senior positions in special units, the naval command, anti-terror combat and the civil administration of the West Bank.

From 2002-2005, he was the Head of the Civil Administration for the West Bank and Jordan Valley. In this role, he led efforts to preserve dialogue with the PA in the period following Operation Defensive Shield - a period during which the Civil Administration was the only Israeli Authority in contact with the PA. He also spearheaded efforts to ensure law enforcement vis-à-vis Israeli settlers harrassing or harming Palestinians.

From 1996-2002 he was the West Bank Territorial Brigades Commander. In this role, during the Oslo period he led the process of building agreements with the PA and coordinating with the PA Security Forces. During the 2nd Intifada, he led anti-terror missions.

From 1978-1995, he served in various roles in the Naval Commando, culminating in the position as Deputy Commander of the Naval Commando. He oversaw numerous operations, both as Platoon and Batallion Commander

Currently, General Paz is a Senior Strategic Consultant to several NGOs, think tanks and academic institutions seeking to further an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. These include the Economic Cooperation Foundation (ECF), a policy-planning NGO furthering Israeli-Palestinian peace and cooperation; also provide services to Israeli-Palestinian Center for Research and Information (IPCRI), The Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies (JIIS), The Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies, The Council for Peace and Security (CPS).
