Stuart Sender

Stuart Sender has written, produced and directed award-winning news and documentary programs for public and network television in the United States and internationally. These credits include the Academy-Award nominated documentary film "Prisoner of Paradise" (prisonerofparadise.com) which also received a Directors Guild nomination for best documentary feature and the prestigious Grierson Award in the UK.

After working for two years with CBS news, he was Senior Producer of the weekly PBS series "South Africa Now" (from 1989 to 1993) which won an Emmy Award for best newsmagazine and a Polk Award for excellence in journalism. He produced the first exclusive, hour long interview with Nelson Mandela following Mandela's release from prison for the "Phil Donahue Show;" and was Senior Producer of "Mandela: Free At Last," a nationally broadcast PBS special. He was also a producer of "Countdown to Democracy," a critically-acclaimed documentary film about South Africa's first democratic elections.

He was Senior Producer of Beyond JFK, a documentary film about the Kennedy assassination and the controversy around Oliver Stone's film "JFK." His short film expose' of former Ku Klux Klansman David Duke's run for governor of Louisiana premiered on MTV. He also wrote, produced and directed "The Power of Peace," a three-hour documentary series hosted by Harry Belafonte and broadcast on Wisdom Television.

Most recently, he has produced (with his wife and partner Julie Bergman Sender) and directed a number of celebrity-driven political films and commercials: including pieces featuring Will Ferrell (whitehousewest.com), Stevie Wonder (at November2.org) Helen Hunt (on-line at Saveroe.com) and Jason Alexander (Outsourceoutrage.com).

Stuart Sender has been a contributor and on-air commentator on programs such as "The CNN World Report," MSNBC's "Scarborough Country" and "Inside Edition." His articles and editorial pieces have appeared in a number of publications, including the Los Angeles Times. He has interviewed a range of world leaders and personalities, including Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama and Yassir Arafat; and actors and entertainers ranging from Kevin Costner to Ziggy Marley.

Stuart Sender has written and produced a number of feature film projects: including a rewrite of "Tears of the Sun" starring Bruce Willis released by SONY Pictures. He also wrote "Pictures at 11" (for director John Irvin, Hamburger Hill, A Month By the Lake). Currently he is producing a television series set in the world of broadcast journalism for Bunim Murray (creators of The Real World); and Mercenaries, a mini-series (with "Angels In America" producer Cary Brokaw).

Stuart Sender began his career as a producer for CBS news and he has worked in Latin American film distribution for media giant Viacom. He has an undergraduate degree in Politics from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Masters Degree in Journalism from Columbia University.
