Jennifer Engle

Jennifer Engle joined The Education Trust in August 2008 as Assistant Director of Higher Education. She came from the Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher Education, where in three years she rose from project manager to senior research analyst to acting director. As the Pell Institute's senior research analyst, she engaged in quantitative and qualitative research activities, including survey/instrument development, data collection and analysis, and writing on issues affecting the postsecondary opportunity and outcomes of low-income, first-generation students.

Dr. Engle holds a doctorate in education from American University. She has held research and teaching positions at American University, Trinity University, Montgomery College, and the American Association of University Women. Other professional experiences span program evaluation and curriculum design.

A list of her publications while at the Pell Institute include Moving Beyond Access: College Success for Low-Income, First-Generation Students, which she co-authored with Vincent Tinto. She also coauthored two important reports with Colleen O'Brien: Demography is not Destiny: Increasing the Graduation Rates of Low-Income College Students at Large Public Universities, and Straight from the Source: What Works for First-Generation College Students.
