George Farrugia

George received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 from Virginia Wesleyan College with a major in Political Science and Psychology. In 1995, he received his Juris Doctor from George Washington University in Washington, DC. In May of 1997, he began work at the Queens County District Attorney's Office, where he has spent the last eight years as a career prosecutor. For the last six years, he has been assigned to the Gang Violence and Hate Crimes Bureau, where he was promoted to a Supervisor. As a member of this senior trial bureau, George tried the first anti-gay hate crime under New York's new Hate Crimes statute. In addition to his work in the bureau, George serves as the liaison to the LGBT community for the Queens District Attorney's Office. He is the current president of the Gay Officers Action League in New York. As president, George instituted the newly developed Mentoring Program, and has worked closely with several community groups and LGBT publications in launching this project.
