A Transatlantic Dialog on Solutions to Global Warming

July 22, 2008, 9:00am – 10:30am

About This Event

As scientific news on the impact of global warming gets ever more severe, it is time for bold international action and smart policies to promote solutions. Much of the world has already put a price on carbon and set binding targets for renewable energy and efficiency, and momentum is building for a new round of climate negotiations. In the United States, serious discussion of national legislation to cap carbon emissions has begun, while states and cities commit to deploy renewable energy and promote green building. In light of all this activity, there is a new opportunity for policy makers to learn from the experience of governments and nonprofits that are already leading the charge in a clean energy transition.

The Center for American Progress and the Heinrich Böll Foundation join in inviting you to participate in a transatlantic dialog with senior European policy makers, who have provided leadership on issues ranging from the German solar energy Feed In Tariff law, to establishing carbon markets in the European Union and setting commitments to reduce emissions. Engaging these international leaders in a transatlantic dialog on global warming solutions will be leading green building and renewable energy advocates from the United States who have been building real clean energy solutions in the absence of federal leadership. This will be a rich dialog offering lessons from the field for U.S. policy makers as we move toward a national commitment to tackle global warming.
