Lauren Smith
Research Assistant
Lauren Smith is a Research Assistant with the Economic Policy Team at American Progress. Her work at the Center focuses primarily on the socioeconomic conditions of American women, their rapidly changing role in the workforce, and the implications of women’s new roles on existing laws, social programs, and economic policy.
Lauren graduated from Wesleyan University with bachelor’s degrees in science in society and sociology, as well as a certificate in international relations. While completing her degree, she led a seminar on global health, served on the policy committee of the Student Global AIDS Campaign, and studied for an academic semester with the International Honors Program in India, China, and South Africa.
Before joining American Progress as a Research Assistant, she worked as Special Assistant to CAP Senior Fellow Gene Sperling, assistant education deputy for the Clinton Global Initiative, and National Advocacy Fellow for Universities Allied for Essential Medicines. Lauren previously spent time interning in the health policy office of Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA), volunteering and conducting policy analysis with Project HEALTH, and organizing constituents of early primary states around global justice issues in the 2008 presidential primary.
