James Kvaal
Domestic Policy Advisor
James Kvaal is a Domestic Policy Advisor at American Progress. He works with the Action Fund's Hyde Park Project, which seeks to drive the ideological debate on the key policy issues facing our country.
Before coming to American Progress, James was the policy director on John Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign, where he coordinated the development of policies to advance progressive ideals in the areas of health care, global warming, the economy, poverty and education. In 2003 and 2004, he worked on domestic policy in Edwards' Senate office
Earlier in his career, James served in the Clinton White House as a senior policy advisor at the National Economic Council, where he handled higher education and budget issues. He has also worked for the Committee on Education and Labor of the U.S. House of Representatives and in the office of the deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Education. He holds degrees earned cum laude from Harvard Law School and with honors from Stanford University.
