Research Associate for National Security

Summary
The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for someone to work with the National Security and International Policy team. The Research Associate will support the Senior Fellow on NSIP focusing specifically on Iraq, military strategy, and defense issues.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide analytical, comparative critiques of Iraq policy and U.S. military strategy in coordination with the Center’s NSIP team
- Conduct research on issues related to Iraq, the Middle East, and U.S. military
- Draft content for reports, articles, op-eds, and speeches on a wide range of national security issues, including Iraq, the Middle East, U.S. military strategy, and military readiness
- Organize meetings and group events
- File, proofread, and edit documents
- Draft and edit presentations, charts, tables, and graphs
- Exercise judgment on priority of messages, meetings, and incoming materials from principals and others
- Coordinate with outreach team on upcoming articles and links
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of U.S. foreign and national security policy, specifically issues related to Iraq, the U.S. military, defense, and military strategy
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to plan ahead, prioritize, and organize
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure of deadlines
- Ability to work long hours on occasion
- Thorough knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Team player
- M.A. in international affairs or related field, or B.A. in international affairs or related field and four years research experience
- Thorough knowledge of MS Word, LexisNexis, and the Internet
- Non-profit experience a plus
- Experience working with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organization a plus
