Summary

Middle East Progress is a project of the Center for American Progress.

Middle East Progress helps develop and highlight practical approaches toward a comprehensive U.S. approach in the Middle East, with a primary focus on resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict. We believe such action will improve U.S., Israeli, and regional security, and America’s global standing, and reflects the will and aspirations of a vast majority of Israelis and Arabs living the conflict every day.

Middle East Progress focuses its efforts in three areas:

(1) Publishing the Middle East Bulletin—produced three times a week, The Bulletin includes a news digest from journalists covering the region, analyses from Middle East experts and organizations, reports from events in the region and in the United States, and original commentary

(2) Promoting public-private partnerships—Middle East Progress leads the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) task force to create a political risk insurance fund intended to help remove obstacles to investment and trade in the Palestinian territories and participates actively in the Middle East Investment Initiative (MEII), an independent effort to create financial instruments such as a $160 million loan guarantee facility that has increased Palestinian business’ access to financing, technical assistance, and market information needed to grow, create jobs, and improve and create production capacity

(3) Encouraging new ideas and strategies—MEP brings together from around the world and across the country those who can most effectively shape the policy dynamic on security and economic issues by hosting meetings, panels, and conferences to discuss ideas, create new approaches, and strategize on how best to implement them within and across borders.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

The Middle East Progress Assistant works to support Middle East Bulletin and to promote the public-private partnership efforts.

  • Assist in Middle East Progress intern recruitment
  • Training interns and supervising their daily work
  • Assist the U.S. and Middle East editors as needed in daily research and publication of the bulletin
  • Help to develop and implement Bulletin outreach strategy
  • Assist Middle East Progress advisors on public-private partnerships; assist in developing and updating marketing and website material, draft and help manage and coordinate communications with project task forces, including regular progress reports, conduct regular research and analysis on economic situation in Palestinian territories, and Middle East more generally
  • Help to coordinate MEP events

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have earned an undergraduate degree and/or have on-the-job equivalent experience
  • S/he must be an exceptional writer and researcher, and a skilled communicator in all media
  • Candidate must possess strong relationship management, strategic planning, and project management skills
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Middle East is important and cross-cultural capabilities a must
  • Attention to details and strong organizational capabilities also are critical
  • The ideal candidate is a high energy self-starter who possesses unquestionable personal integrity, commitment to excellence, and teamwork. In addition, they should have a strong desire to learn and a willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done
