Economist/Senior Economist

Summary

The Center for American Progress has an immediate opening for an Economist or Senior Economist. We are looking for somebody who is widely experienced in a range of fields, and who has in depth expertise in at least one the following fields: macroeconomics, innovation and growth, labor economics, economic mobility, and/or public finance. This person would conduct their own research, help in conducting the necessary quality control for work of colleagues at the Center, consult on commissioned work and serve as a spokesperson on broader economic issues.

We are interested in both experienced Ph.D. economists, as well as recent advanced degree graduates.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and conduct original research and analysis of economic policy issues.
  • Research legislative issues as they pertain to economic growth and innovation.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the production and distribution of policy portfolio and products.
  • Assist in the coordination and planning of meetings and events.
  • Draft articles, papers, charts, tables, and graphs of economic data.
  • Maintain expertise in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Manage and supervise staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Good writing and research skills.
  • Ability to understand economic issues and to communicate them effectively.
  • Ability to work well within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Proven ability to manage consultative process, and effective supervisory skills and ability to manage and mentor staff.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in economics or closely related field, PhD. preferred
  • At least 5 years professional experience preferred for the economist position and at least 7 years of professional experience desired for the senior economist  
  • Non-profit, both  501 (c) (3) and 501 (c) (4) organizations, and think-tank experience a plus
  • Commitment to the Center’s mission and goals
