Summary

Campus Progress, the youth division of the Center for American Progress, is seeking a Video Associate to lead the development of innovative media programming that engages diverse audiences with progressive ideas. The Video Associate will combine artistic and technical skills as the lead videographer for live events, interviews, news reports, creative video pieces, public service announcements, and other original content, and will train and assist staff to enhance overall video production. The Video Associate also will serve as lead editor for original video content, and will train and assist other staff to establish a consistent style and production quality for staff-produced video projects. They will be a visual storyteller who plays a key role in establishing Campus Progress as a leader in policy-driven media communications. This is a newly created position

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as primary camera operator for Campus Progress live events, often supervising a “B-operator”
  • Serve as primary video editor for original video content produced at Campus Progress, from concept to final branded output to various formats
  • Lead the aesthetic development of original video production, both in terms of production quality as well as final edited projects, graphic branding, and distributed video communications products
  • Coordinate specification and integration of video (camera, lights, and sound) and editorial technology to maximize quality, reliability, and interoperability within production and publishing, in cooperation with IT and Web teams
  • Train and oversee work of  key staff and interns to develop and sustain internal production capabilities, including the use of the Apple Final Cut edit system, as well as DV & HD camera systems
  • Work in partnership with internal clients and producers to develop concepts and define requirements for projects, then manage and execute video production and post-production
  • Deliver valuable, high-quality work on time and within budgets
  • Supervise interns


Requirements:

  • Strong storytelling skills and technical craftsmanship as both a videographer and editor
  • Strong communications skills and a track record for on-time delivery on tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to take a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge and skill as a DV and HD video camera operator, with strong experience shooting with multiple cameras and formats
  • Strong knowledge of video lighting
  • Strong knowledge of production audio
  • Strong knowledge of Apple Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Express
  • Strong experience with desktop animation, titling, and sound systems
  • Strong experience with DVD authoring and web-streaming encoders
  • Positive motivation to lead development of skills and capabilities among co-workers to maximize achievements in this critical growth area for the organization


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience as a staff or freelance videographer or editor
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Commitment to Campus Progress's mission and goals
  • Experience in documentary production or news journalism a plus
  • Experience working with 501(c)(3)/(c)(4) organizations a plus
