Managing Editor, Policy Analyst
Sean Pool is the Science Innovation Policy Analyst and Managing Editor of Science Progress, the Center for American Progress’s online science and technology policy journal. Sean is responsible for the day-to-day operations and editing of Science Progress in addition to his work researching and writing about the innovation economy and policies that promote small business success, entrepreneurship, and bottom-up economic growth.
Previously, Sean supported Climate Progress and American Progress’s energy opportunity team, where he assisted the Vice President of Energy Policy with team administration and in the development of policy proposals to advance the U.S. clean energy economy. Sean’s policy work with the energy team focused on regional and state-level climate change policies, clean energy innovation networks, and enhancing U.S. industrial competitiveness through research, commercialization, and deployment of new technology.
Before coming to American Progress, Sean researched international voluntary and policy-driven carbon markets at the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy, at the Yale Office of Sustainability, and at the Australia National University Green Office in Canberra.
Sean received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University with a double major in environmental engineering and international studies, and wrote his senior thesis comparing the role of governments in shaping the business climate for private investment in wind energy innovation in six European countries and the United States.
