Summary

The American Progress research team works on both rapid-response and long-term research and communications projects. The team’s core products are The Progress Report and ThinkProgress.org. The Progress Report, American Progress’s signature product, is a daily newsletter reaching over 90,000 subscribers with a progressive analysis of the news.

ThinkProgress.org is one of the web’s top progressive blogs, with original and continual research on the day’s hottest news. Interns assigned to assist the research team will be asked to do extensive researching, writing, editing, fact-checking, monitoring of news stories, blogging on Think Progress, and other tasks as assigned. Our team looks for interns with strong research and writing skills.

Every internship includes an important core of administrative work, including database management, report distribution, and general office support. Other duties include conducting targeted research and reporting on policy meetings, seminars, hearings, and lectures. Whenever possible, interns are encouraged to write on the subject of their choice either as a contributor to a larger final piece or as an individual author of a column for our website.

American Progress operates two separate nonprofit organizations to maximize our progressive agenda: The Center for American Progress and the Center for American Progress Action Fund. This job posting refers collectively to the two organizations under the name “American Progress.” The Center for American Progress is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) tax-exempt research and educational institute. It undertakes research, public education and a limited amount of lobbying. The Center for American Progress Action Fund is a non-partisan 501(c)(4) tax-exempt organization dedicated to achieving progress through action. It works to transform progressive ideas into policy through rapid response communications, legislative action, grassroots organizing, political advocacy, and partnerships with other progressive leaders. The organizations share office space and employees.

American Progress is an equal opportunity employer; women, minorities, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
