Immigration Policy Internship
The Center for American Progress Immigration Team provides leadership on research, advocacy, policy, and communications in all aspects of immigration and immigration policy in the United States. The team works to craft and support positive immigration reforms including comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act, and to refute negative and biased anti-immigrant sentiment and policy. We work closely with a broad coalition of advocacy organizations as well as congressional and government offices to promote real solutions to our nation’s immigration challenges.
Interns will be intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of the Immigration Team. They will provide research support on a variety of issues related to immigration in the United States, help craft messaging and advocacy positions for the Center, help track important stories about our issue, and help out with events and organizational tasks. We also encourage and help our interns to publish a column on an immigration issue of their choosing.
Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communications skills and knowledge of basic research methods. Successful candidates will have an interest in helping to promote positive immigration reforms and helping to better the lives of all Americans, immigrant and citizen alike. Intimate knowledge of the field is not explicitly necessary, but some familiarity with immigration policy or advocacy is a plus.
Every internship includes an important core of administrative work, including database management, report distribution, and general office support. Other duties include conducting targeted research and reporting on policy meetings, seminars, hearings, and lectures. Whenever possible, interns are encouraged to write on the subject of their choice either as a contributor to a larger final piece or as an individual author of a column for our website.
